This is a photograph of the source material I chose.
It comes from a brilliantly useful book called
"The Art Of Animal Drawing." by Ken Hultgren.
On a pale cream support
(which didn't show up in the this photos I took)
with a felt tipped pen I loosely put in the shape of the horse's skeleton.
Then, with a purply blue pen and some other shades of black and grey, I tried to layer on the form and contours of a horse.
And last of all, I drew in a background, from imagination.
I liked drawing this, I think it will help me think more about the inner workings of a thing I am drawing rather then just what appears on the surface.
I don't really know enough about the way muscles work, I would like to study it.
In the reference imagery I chose the horse's stance implied it was pulling something...so with a few purple lines I indicated some ropes.
