Exercise (2) Tonal Study Of Bones and Shells. Project (5) Pets and Other Animals.

Felt tip pen.
Sketch of a pile of shells.
I think the convex shells are much easier to draw then the shells concave side up.
The shell in the extreme left in the foreground, is, I think, incomprehensible.
I don't think I captured much variation in tones,
possibly because of the material I chose.
But I do like the composition though.

Graphite stick, pencil and rubber.
To start, I rubbed graphite all over my support (to establish my mid-tones.) Then took out with a rubber and put on pencil.
I quite like this drawing.
It has a soft almost a faded quality to it.
I didn't get a shine on the shell's surface though.
Not so keen on the shell closest to the bottom of the page.

Pencil.
I don't really like the way there isn't a decent background,
(on the drawing before it didn't really matter, as the viewer is looking down on the still life.)
But on this one, (apart from the shadows) it is just left white and doesn't look very nice.
The skulls doesn't have enough definition to it and the shapes aren't right.
Got a bit more of a shine on the highlighted areas,
the turned up shell looks better in this one, too.
